I have been digging into DSO benchmarks lately and the data is all over the place:

  • The Hackett Group pegs the overall median at around 48 days across large enterprises
  • Net 30 companies typically land at 35-40 days (about 17% over terms)
  • Net 60 companies see 68-75 days
  • Some mid-market SaaS teams I have talked to are running 42-55 days depending on customer mix

But here is what I keep hearing: the number alone does not tell you much. A 45-day DSO with clean aging and predictable cash flow is very different from a 38-day DSO where one whale customer is masking a long tail of overdue accounts.

Curious where this community falls:

  1. What is your DSO right now? (Ballpark is fine — no one is auditing you here)
  2. What payment terms do most of your customers sit on? Net 30? Net 60? A messy mix?
  3. What is the one thing that actually moved your DSO in the last year? (Automation? Staffing? Better dunning cadence? Yelling at sales?)

Not looking for best practices from a whitepaper — I want to hear what is actually happening on your team.
